Workshop Description
This workshop will highlight current challenges being face by school-based SLPs in New Jersey. Newest challenges include; formulating standards-based objectives to align with the recently adopted national Common Core State Standards (CCSS), implementation of appropriate SGOs for SLSs and their relationship to New Jersey’s Teacher Evaluation process and the SLS’s responsibilities relative to Medicaid. In addition, a few key state regulations from the New Jersey Administrative Code 6A:14 – Special Education (N.J.A.C. 6A:14) and arriving at interpretation of them will be explained, as will the intent of the SLP’s job in the schools as outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These challenges will be presented within the context of the 2010 ASHA document, Roles and Responsibilities of SLPs in Schools.
