speech language pathology. This workshop is not ASHA approved but CEUs are accepted by
ASHA as described on their website.

Presenter
Kate Flaxman, M.S., CCC-SLP is an Augmentative Communication Specialist with
Advancing Opportunities. She has had a diversified experience working with individuals
with complex communication needs who benefit from AAC in early intervention, schools,
adult placement settings, homes, and employment. She strives to promote
communication for the purpose of improving lives through interactions with parents,
peers, caregivers, school personnel, and community members. Kate has presented on
the topic of gestalt language processing at local and national conferences.

Workshop Description
This course will be a thorough introduction to gestalt language processing. It will include
how to identify gestalt language processors, the stages of Natural Language Acquisition
as described by Marge Blanc, therapy techniques for working with gestalt language
processors, goal writing, and AAC considerations.

Learner Outcomes
1. Participants will describe the 6 stages of Natural Language Acquisition.
2. Participants will compare features of analytic language processors and gestalt language processors.
3. Participants will identify 4 strategies to support language development of a gestalt language processor.
4. Participants will identify 3 features of AAC that may benefit a gestalt language processor.
5. Participants will identify 3 therapy goals for early-stage gestalt language processors.
